Where the NBA 2027-28 schedule stands on October 9, 2026
If you are trying to plan a trip around the 2027-28 NBA season, the honest answer right now is that almost nothing on the day-by-day calendar exists yet. The league has not released the 2027-28 schedule, and it has not published a key-dates page for that season either. The most recent key-dates release covers the 2026-27 campaign and was posted on nba.com on October 6, 2026. It lists nothing for 2028.
That does not mean the season is a blank page. A handful of pieces are already fixed by official announcements, a few others have been reported by credible outlets, and a lot can be inferred from how the league has built its calendar in recent years. This guide separates those three layers so you know exactly what you can book against and what you should hold off on.
- Official: two regular-season games in Europe in 2028, one in Berlin at Uber Arena and one in Paris at Accor Arena.
- Official: the league has 30 teams, and on March 25, 2026 its Board of Governors voted 30-0 only to explore expansion bids from Las Vegas and Seattle.
- Reported: a 2028-29 entry season for any expansion teams, which would leave 2027-28 as a 30-team season.
- To be confirmed: opening night, the trade deadline, All-Star 2028, the Play-In, the playoffs, the Finals and the 2028 Draft.
When will the NBA 2027-28 schedule be released?
The NBA does not announce its schedule release date far in advance, but its pattern is consistent. The 2025-26 schedule came out on August 14, 2025. The 2026-27 schedule was published in full on August 13, 2026, after a few days of staggered reveals that started on August 11 with opening week and the Christmas Day slate. Following that convention, the full 2027-28 schedule should land around mid-August 2027. Treat that as an expectation, not a promise: the league has not announced it.
What usually happens on release week is worth knowing if you want tickets. The marquee pieces, such as opening night matchups and holiday games, tend to be revealed first, often a day or two before the full grid. Once the full schedule is public, all 30 teams publish their home calendars and single-game tickets typically follow on each team’s own timetable, which can differ from club to club. Season-ticket holders and team presale lists generally get first access. That is why the release date matters more than it seems: the window between "schedule out" and "best seats gone" can be short for high-demand games.
How the NBA 2027-28 season will be built
Barring an announcement to the contrary, 2027-28 follows the structure fans already know. Each team plays 82 regular-season games, split between home and road. The regular season runs from late October to mid-April, then the Play-In Tournament decides the 7th and 8th seeds in each conference, and the playoffs follow with four best-of-seven rounds ending in the NBA Finals in June.
For reference, here is how the current season, 2026-27, is laid out according to the league’s official key-dates page. These are not 2027-28 dates; they are a template that shows roughly where each milestone tends to fall.
| Milestone | 2026-27 (official) | 2027-28 |
|---|---|---|
| Preseason starts | October 3, 2026 | TBC |
| Opening night | Tuesday, October 20, 2026 | TBC |
| Trade deadline | February 11, 2027 | TBC |
| All-Star game | February 21, 2027, Phoenix | City and date TBC |
| Regular season ends | April 11, 2027 | TBC |
| Play-In Tournament | April 13-16, 2027 | TBC |
| Playoffs begin | April 17, 2027 | TBC |
| Draft | June 23-24, 2027 | TBC |
Source: nba.com key dates for 2026-27, published October 6, 2026. Every 2027-28 cell stays "TBC" until the league says otherwise.
One structural question people ask is whether a labor dispute could disrupt 2027-28. The current collective bargaining agreement runs through 2029-30, and the earliest opt-out deadline falls on October 15, 2028. In practical terms, that means no lockout can touch the 2027-28 season under the existing deal.
Berlin and Paris: the international NBA games already on the books for 2027-28
The most concrete thing anyone can say about 2027-28 is that it includes two regular-season games in Europe. On July 30, 2025, the NBA announced a three-year slate of six regular-season games on the continent: Berlin and London in 2026, Paris and Manchester in 2027, and Berlin and Paris in 2028. The 2028 games are assigned to Uber Arena in Berlin and Accor Arena in Paris. According to that announcement, the teams and dates "will be announced prior to the 2027-28 NBA season."
As of October 9, 2026, neither the teams nor the dates are known. If the first two cycles are any guide, both games fall in January, because the 2026 games (Grizzlies vs. Magic in Berlin on January 15 and in London on January 18) and the 2027 games (Pelicans vs. Spurs in Paris on January 14 and Manchester on January 17) were both scheduled that month. But January 2028 is a pattern, not an announcement. Note also that the 2025 release does not include London or Manchester in 2028, and it says nothing about 2029 or beyond.
We cover each game in detail in our dedicated guides to the NBA Berlin Game 2028 and the NBA Paris Game 2028.
The other international stops fans ask about, including Mexico City, Macao, Abu Dhabi and Canada, have no 2027-28 announcement at all. Our pages on Mexico City and Macao and other Global Games explain what the existing agreements do and do not say.
The NBA Cup in 2027-28
The in-season tournament, now the Emirates NBA Cup, will be entering its fifth edition in the 2027-28 season if it continues on its current track. The format details for 2027 have not been published, so the best reference is the 2026 edition: group play from October 30 to November 27, 2026, quarterfinals on December 4-5 and semifinals on December 8-9 in the home markets of the higher seeds, and a championship game on Friday, December 11, 2026 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
That 2026 final is notable because it is the first one held outside Las Vegas, which hosted the first three. The league framed the move as part of a "multiyear vision to bring the Championship to distinctive stages." The practical consequence for 2027-28 is simple: do not assume Las Vegas. The 2027 final venue has not been announced.
If you want NBA Cup tickets in a given year, the group games are part of each team’s regular schedule and go on sale with the rest of the home calendar. Knockout games in team markets are only known once the bracket is set, which leaves little planning time, so following your team’s alerts matters more than usual.
Expansion: why NBA 2027-28 should still be a 30-team season
Expansion is the biggest storyline hanging over the league’s calendar, so it is worth being precise. On March 25, 2026, the Board of Governors voted unanimously, 30-0, to authorize the league to explore expansion bids for Las Vegas and Seattle only. That vote was permission to explore, not approval.
At the mid-September 2026 owners meeting there was no vote and no decision. Commissioner Adam Silver said, "It’s our goal to have decisions by the end of the year." Reports put Las Vegas bids at $10 billion or more and Seattle bids around $7 billion, and the targeted first season for new teams has been reported as 2028-29. None of that is official, and final approval would require 23 of 30 votes.
For fans, the takeaway is that the 2027-28 schedule should be built for 30 teams unless the league announces otherwise. Even under the reported timeline, an expansion draft and new arenas would affect the following season, not this one.
A separate project, the planned NBA Europe league run with FIBA, is also sometimes confused with the regular-season games in Berlin and Paris. According to reporting published on nba.com in July 2026, that league is targeting a fall 2027 launch with 16 teams, but no franchise had been officially announced. It does not change the NBA’s own 82-game schedule.
Planning NBA 2027-28 tickets without guessing
Because nothing is on sale yet for 2027-28 regular-season games, anyone advertising "confirmed" dates or seats today is getting ahead of the league. Here is a practical way to approach the season:
- Set your priorities now. Decide whether you are chasing a specific team, a specific arena, an international game, or a postseason run. Each follows a different ticket path.
- Join the team’s own lists. Every franchise sells its home games through its own official channel and usually offers presale registration to newsletter subscribers or account holders.
- Mark mid-August 2027. That is when the full schedule is expected, and single-game sales often follow within weeks.
- Be careful with resale. Secondary-market prices can be higher than face value, particularly for opening night, Christmas, international games and the playoffs.
- Re-check after announcements. Berlin and Paris details are due before the season starts; All-Star 2028 is still unassigned.
How not to miss any NBA 2027-28 update
The 2027-28 calendar will be revealed in pieces: the Europe teams and dates, the All-Star host, the full schedule in August, then Play-In and playoff dates. Our free email alert sends you a note each time one of those pieces becomes official, with a short summary of what changed. After you sign up, we also show you partner ticketing sites for NBA games; keep in mind that resale listings can be priced above face value. You can unsubscribe in one click.
Until then, the safest assumption is that every date not listed in the official-facts box above is still to be confirmed as of October 9, 2026, and we update this page as soon as that changes.
